given 04:29
Self-portrait by Paul Shive, based on portrait by Eric Hendrix. --- Single sojourn sanded soul Trying timing taken toll Give me strength Given days Just bending, not breaking Free falling, not landing Not ending, but seeming Just crawling, and giving Patience patterned pailful prose Nothing newly nearing notes Give me clear Given year Not breaking, just molding While falling, you're holding Instructing, not erring Abiding, and walking

hemmed 02:52
Self-portrait by Eden "Eme" Eskaros, based on portrait by Cassie Perednia. --- Clutching at rags Threadbare pride is   snagged Lonely descent, A mile climbed in regret. Before Behind Beside Hemmed in on all sides By quakes and cries The landscape depressed Craters patched  With rents  The Weaver shuttles wind Says "I tore you to Stitch amends."   Before Behind Beside Hemmed in on all sides By still and sight Before I touched  The hem of your robe I was pained by my own mind Behind a torn veil Love emerged and  Told me come and abide Beside myself with joy  Knowing that you  Knit, tore, restored my life Surrounded by ragged edges till  You came and  hemmed me in  On all sides

is nigh 04:24
Self-portrait by Sarah Long, based on portrait by Paul Shive. --- Pocketed demons candidly willing  For aught breathing Catch the defenseless   Under eyes weeping  Melodies stay bending  Be wise to the curing course  Dim, mine own doings  ______ Drowned in the evening  Stained pink sun still stood Spectacle.  Halting gasp; to beg  Saddened to the earth  Shrink my eyes away Taciturn. ______ Softly shadow  Trailing barriers Uphold; Endure;  Oh and I still hear a voice  “Arise, arise, arise  My Child, arise”  Oh and I still hear a voice  “Arise, arise, arise  My Child, arise” Lay your weapons down  Leave your stronghold doubt  Rest ordnance; depart  Muted spirit, surge  Deceived yourself; fickling. Oh and I still hear a voice  “Arise, arise, arise  My Child, arise” Oh through the pearly curved smog  “Arise, arise, arise   Ye shall arise.”  Peace of the Lord is nigh   See what His sorrow has bloomed

about

WOVEN is a collection of songs built on the theological conviction that it is impossible to fully understand ourselves or our place on this good earth without one another, that we can’t know who we are without knowing how we are experienced by someone else.

The process of creating WOVEN began with the band creating lyrical and musical sketches of one other; each person’s likeness was taken in notes, rests, and lyric, 7th chords, cross-rhythms, and countermelodies. These portraits then became the basis for each band member’s own self-portrait, using the original portrait as a mirror. Harmonic structures were disassembled and reassembled, melodies were inverted, lyric snippets were recombined. Each song in WOVEN is actually two songs: the song heard and the song unheard. Though the initial portrait remains unsounded, its imprint on what is sounded is absolute.

WOVEN paints an aural picture of what happens when one life is threaded and intertwined with another life, and another, and still another. Each thread finds its place, and colors once discreet become components of something larger, deeper, and richer. Individual threads together begin to reveal a larger pattern, a fuller tapestry, an expanding image that whispers of a reality only seen in dreams.

We belong to one another. My brother’s tears are my tears. My neighbor’s healing is my healing. My sister’s sight is my sight. We are woven.
